Imagine parking your rig in the middle of a vineyard or next to a grove of olive trees. Imagine then getting a personalized tour of what goes on at the farm. With Harvest Hosts, you don’t have to imagine!
Harvest Hosts is a network of vineyards, orchards, farms, museums, and golf courses that invite RVers to spend the night for free.
How does Harvest Hosts work?
First you join the program by signing up. There is an annual fee, but the good news is using our link will save you 15%. (As an affiliate, using our link saves you 15% and helps us earn a referral fee.)
Then you load up the app and find a host along your route. Follow the directions for that host to make your stay arrangements and enjoy your stay. It’s all that easy!
What are the requirements for joining Harvest Hosts?
All participants must have rigs that are self-contained including a toilet, water tank, and indoor cooking facilities. Also tents are not allowed.
Finally, while the overnight stay is free, RVers are supposed to purchase something from the host. Harvest Hosts recommends that your purchase be around what you would have paid for the night’s stay — at least $20 usually.
Our Harvest Hosts Experience
We joined Harvest Hosts in February of 2020. We immediately put the membership to good use when we traveled to the Central California Coast in early March — just before the pandemic really impacted all of daily life!
We found a great olive grove and mill located at just the right stopping point on our way down to Solvang and Santa Barbara, so we called and made the arrangements to spend our first night at that farm.
We rolled in around 5:30 pm and found only one other small camper van already there. A few minutes later, our hosts arrived and let us know where to set up the rig. They gave us a quick overview of the grounds and even let us know that there was a fire all set up in the fire pit for us!
It was all super easy and we loved the beautiful setting. After dinner, we walked through the olive grove and the next morning we got the personal tour of the process for making olive oil. The tour ended with a tasting and we bought several bottles of olive oil for ourselves and gifts for the kids’ teachers.
We really enjoyed our Harvest Hosts experience and we can’t wait to try another one!
